Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha & Transfer to Tarangire National Park

Morning:

  • Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO): Arrive in Tanzania’s northern gateway, Kilimanjaro International Airport, where you’ll be met by your guide.
  • Transfer to Tarangire National Park: It’s about a 2-hour drive to Tarangire National Park, famous for its large herds of elephants and distinctive baobab trees.

Afternoon:

  • Game Drive in Tarangire: After checking into your lodge or camp, head out for your first game drive in the park. Tarangire is known for its high concentration of elephants, which can be seen bathing in the Tarangire River.
  • Wildlife Viewing: You’ll also have the chance to spot giraffes, zebras, lions, and numerous bird species, including the rare and colorful lilac-breasted roller.

Evening:

  • Dinner and Overnight at the Lodge: Relax and enjoy dinner at your lodge or camp after your first thrilling safari day. Many lodges offer stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
Day 2: Tarangire National Park to Ngorongoro Crater

  • Lunch in the Park: Stop for a packed lunch at a designated picnic spot, perhaps near a waterhole where you can watch wildlife drink.
  • Afternoon Game Drive: Continue your exploration of Serengeti. If you’re visiting during the migration season (typically from July to October), you may witness the incredible wildebeest migration, with hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebras moving through the park.

Day 6: Serengeti to Arusha & Departure

Late Morning:

  • Drive to Arusha: After breakfast, drive back to Arusha (approximately 5-6 hours) for your return flight. On the way, you’ll pass through the scenic landscapes of the Great Rift Valley.

Afternoon/Evening:

  • Arrival in Arusha: You will arrive in Arusha by late afternoon or early evening. If your flight is later in the evening or the following day, you can either transfer to a hotel for the night or head straight to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure flight.

  • Best Time to Visit: The best time for a safari in Tanzania is during the dry season, from June to October, especially for the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater.
